Firefox for Android is Mozilla’s mobile web browser. It provides tabbed browsing, bookmarks, tracking protection and optional account-based synchronization. It should not be described as a guarantee of complete anonymity or as a browser that automatically removes every advertisement.
Publisher and version reference
This guide was checked on 23 October 2026. Mozilla’s security advisory published on 21 October 2026 identifies Firefox for Android 158.0.2 as a version containing security fixes. This is a dated publisher reference, not verification that any APK offered through this page has that version or that every device receives the same build at the same time.
For installation and updates, identify the Firefox for Android product through Mozilla’s own product information and the official store listing available to your device. Check the publisher, installed version and device compatibility before proceeding. The word “latest” in a page title does not establish the identity or integrity of a separate download file.
Tracking protection and ad blocking are different
Mozilla documents Enhanced Tracking Protection as enabled by default. Standard protection targets categories such as social-media trackers, cross-site trackers and cryptominers. Strict protection also blocks tracking content, which can include advertisements, videos or other elements containing tracking code. That is different from a promise that all advertisements are blocked.
Mozilla’s Android instructions place the protection level under Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Enhanced Tracking Protection. Review the selected level and the site’s protection panel when investigating unexpected page behavior. Strict settings can affect some site features; an extension is also a separate component with its own publisher, permissions and behavior. This guide does not certify an extension or recommend disabling browser security to install one.
What private browsing does and does not do
Private tabs help keep those visits out of the browser’s ordinary browsing history. They do not make you anonymous to websites, your internet provider or an employer’s network. Signing in to a website still identifies your account to that service. Private browsing should therefore be understood as a local browsing mode, rather than a substitute for every kind of online privacy protection.
Mozilla documents opening private tabs from the mask icon and the tab view. Check that you are using the private-tab view before entering a site, and close the relevant private tabs when finished. The appearance of the controls can change between versions; these are publisher-documented directions, not a hands-on device test performed for this article.
Pocket is no longer a current service
Pocket shut down on 8 July 2025. The older description of Pocket recommendations as an active Firefox benefit is therefore not a current feature promise. Other Firefox start-page content should be assessed on its own; it must not automatically be identified as the former Pocket service.
Sync, updates and practical checks
Firefox offers synchronization of items such as tabs, bookmarks and passwords across supported devices. Review the Mozilla account and the data types you choose to synchronize, especially on a shared device. Do not treat synchronization as a separate backup guarantee for all data.
When reporting a problem, note the Android version, Firefox version, affected address and whether it occurs in normal or private tabs. Avoid sharing passwords, verification codes or private page contents in a public support request. This page has not independently tested device performance, every add-on or the APK download targets, and it does not provide a universal safety guarantee.
